Blog Post of the Day:
Read THIS blog post by a teacher. I mean actually read it. Take it in. Think about it. And then, write about it. What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is. Do you agree or disagree with the writer?

I admire what this teacher writes and I think he makes a good point. It made me respect what his point of view was. His "main event" was "learning to deal with the harshness of life when it gets difficult" and he makes a lot of sense. I agree with this article because I do think way too much emphasis is placed on getting good grades rather than actually learning or growing as a person. I liked what this teacher had to say and agree with his ideas, especially the part where he says we need to man up.

Monday, May 5

I liked the video and I thought it made good points. I agree that lots of us, especially young people, are addicted to our phones and social media, but I don't think we need to get rid of it completely. It would be better if we paid more attention to the world going on around us and didn't rely on social media to make us happy. On the other hand, I think social media and technology play a major role in our lives, as we use these types of things daily for work, school, and amusement. I think we need to find a balance, and I agree with the video that there are more important things going on in real life than there is ever on any type of technology or social media site.

What is a 'splash page'? Look it up. Explain what they are and how they are used. Find an example of a splash page in Google Images. Save the image to you computer and then upload it to your blog post. Hint - see below.

A splash page is a page of a website that pops up first when users enter a website. It sometimes contains short information about the website or shows a logo. These can also include animations or sound effects as well as choices on how to use the website. These are basically just normal pages on a website, but they come first and are not a main aspect of the site. They are used to enter a website and begin navigating around it! Here is an example:

Status update! Tell me where  you are at on your product website? Can you be finished by tomorrow at the end of the hour? Do you need more time? How much more time? Be honest and explain yourself.

I am almost finished with my product website! I think I will be done at the end of hour tomorrow but it might be helpful to have maybe half of block  day to work! I have my pages done but it would be nice to have more time to add things to my pages and organize the products!

Welcome back! How was your Spring Break? Tell me all about it. You've been out of school for 10 days so I know you will have plenty to share. Make it good!

Hello! Over spring break, I went to NYC with my dad. We stayed with my aunt, saw a Broadway show, and went shopping. Then, we went to the University of Colorado and the University of Illinois for college visits and I loved them both! Once I got back I hung out with my friends but then I got sick. On Monday, I visited KU and didn't go to school. I had a good spring break and am excited for summer!

Do you like the layout of this project? Have you benefited from your brainstorming sheet? Was it more helpful or annoying when starting to map out your website? Explain why.

So far, I like the layout of this project. I like how we are going to learn how to make a drop down menu and think that will help with the layout of my site. The brainstorming sheet was definitely helpful and useful for when I started mapping out my website. I was able to easily see what I wanted to put on my website and where I wanted to place it. It helped me stay organized and remember to include everything.

After reading below to see where you should be on your product website - are you caught up? What helps you stay caught up in class? Do you like having small checkpoints? Are you behind? If so, what are you going to do to get caught up?

I am caught up on where I should be as of right now! I do like having small checkpoints because it can help you stay caught up and keep track of where you should be. To stay caught up I'm going to keep working hard and stay working on the small checkpoints.

What idea do you have that is going to make you product website different, unique or unlike anyone else? If you're answer is you don't know - it's time to start THINKING. Explain your idea.

My website is going to be different than any other website because it is going to be very well organized and have different pages for each type of dress. The categories will be clear and the images will distinguish which category each dress will be in.

What product have you decided to feature/sell on your product website? Explain why you've chosen this product and remember, the sky is the limit on this project!

I have chosen to sell many types of dresses along with jewelry and accessories. I chose this because I love online shopping, especially for dresses and I think that a website like this can be fun and exciting to shop on! I'm excited to design this website because online shopping and dress buying is something I like to do.

What are three things you learned about color theory and web design  yesterday? Go in to detail.

Yesterday, I learned about how color theory and web design go together. If the color and color scheme don't match or look good together, the whole website can be thrown off. I learned about how color blind people see certain colors and how there can be difficulty with seeing certain colors, especially on the internet. Also, I learned about how different colors go together and can make certain layouts and make the website look good.

What effect can a color scheme have on a website? How can it make a website better? How can it make a website worse? Explain why color is important.

Color scheme can change an entire website and make it more appealing to the viewer. A website can be improved by the color because it can make the site look more organized, interesting, and decorative. On the other hand, it can also make a site look disorganized and messy and can possibly distract viewers from the information on the website. Color is important because it can successfully or not successfully create an interesting and useful website.

What did you learn about file types as you created and designed your travel website? What are some other kinds of file types you know of? What do these different files do? Explain.

I learned that there are multiple different types of files and it is important to save your specific works as what you want it to be saved as. For example, a PNG saves it as a an image and you cannot edit it after you save it. There are also many other types of files that can be edited such as JPEG, PSD, HTML, and more.

What was your takeaway from this Travel Site? What did you learn that you didn't know before? How will the knowledge of how we built this site help you improve your future websites?

I really liked the Travel Site! I learned a lot about how to use Photoshop and how to edit pictures with Photoshop. I think knowing how to operate that program can help in the future with building more sites and making improvements to them. I learned how to make the website fit all together and I think I learned lots about how to add features to make it interesting.

How can Photoshop be a valuable tool in web design? Explain.

Photoshop can be very valuable in web design because it allows you to incorporate creativity into the website. Photoshop can make images better and more useful and can improve websites! It can help make your website look better over all.

What do you know about Photoshop? Have you used it before? What can it do? Are you an expert? A newbie? Tell me about your background and what you already know.

I don't know much about Photoshop, because the last time I used it was in middle school computers. I would consider myself a newbie. I know that you can edit pictures and apply many settings to them to improve or change the image. Otherwise, I don't know how to operate or work in Photoshop.

Think about how a user (me or anyone else using your site) might function and interact with your site. What are some important functional features to make your website easy to work with? How can you make it easier for the user and not frustrating? Explain why this is so important.

A user would interact with my site by clicking on the links and navigating around. My website is pretty organized and I think that the subpages and links are important pieces that make a website easier to work with. It is frustrating when it is difficult to navigate back to the home page, so to make it less stressful, having a link back to home on every page is essential. As long as the website is neat and clear, the user should not be frustrated.

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend. If you didn't go to Sweetheart, what did you do? I want details!

This weekend I went to sweetheart with one of my good friends Steven Cargin. We went in a huge group with a bunch of my friends. We ate dinner at Gorozos and then went to the dance. I had a lot of fun and had a great time!

Tell me about your All About Me site. What are going to be your 4 main content pages? Why did you choose those topics? What big plans do you have for your site that is going to make it different and creative?

My four main content pages are my interests, my family, my friends, and fun facts about me. I chose these because they are central to my life and are the main parts of my life. I plan to make my website organized, interesting, and colorful to make it stand out from others. I want viewers to learn something about me from my website.

What are your thoughts on HTML code? Did you enjoy the coding activity? Do you feel like you learned anything? Explain yourself.

I think HTML coding is pretty interesting but also confusing! I feel like I have learned a lot about how coding works and what it is, but I don't necessarily enjoy it that much. I never knew what went into making a website and coding things so I think it is useful to learn and be knowledgeable about.

Tell me about your three day weekend. How was it? What did you do? Elaborate!

My three day weekend was pretty relaxing, and I did not do very much. On Friday after school, I went to lunch with my best friends and then hung out together. I cheered at Southwest for the boy's basketball game on Friday night and then I went home and slept. Saturday, I worked all morning and afternoon, and then hung out with my friends! Sunday was pretty uneventful and I watched a lot of Netflix. Monday, I cheered at the girl's basketball game and did my homework. Overall, it was a nice weekend and I enjoyed it!

Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted it, I should be able to use it."

I agree with the idea that if somebody posts something, then it should be fair game for any internet user to reuse it. I think this because I believe that anything you post on the internet can be used by others, and is fair for anyone to see. I do think that credit should be given and sources should be cited for certain images and information. I don't think it's fair to take someone else's work without given credit where it is due, but I do think that any image should be 'free game' after it has been posted online.

What do you know about plagiarism? What do you know about plagiarism on the internet? How do web design, the internet and plagiarism all effect each other? Explain.

I know that plagiarism is against the rules and is the copying of someone else's work. We are taught that plagiarizing someone else's work is bad, and we learn ways to avoid plagiarism. By using the Internet, it is easy to take credit for another person's research, words, or work. It is not hard to just copy and paste something from another source to your paper, and use it as your own. With web design and the internet, users must be careful and cautious to cite their sources and give credit to those sources. By using the internet, there are many opportunities to plagiarize, and with web design it is easy to steal someone's ideas. To keep things fair and right, it is important that internet users do not plagiarize!

What do you already know about web design? How it works? Programs you can use? Tools that exist? Anything.

I know that websites are designed using different programs that anyone on the Internet can have access to. All I know about coding is that each different design and website has a different and unique code. I know that when website designs are changed that many times users have to get an update for their phone or computer. Other than that, I am not very familiar with web design.
